Long Beach Students visit Space Camp Turkey...

Led by Long Beach Science Teacher Adrienne Sandstedt, a group of students from Lindsey Middle school in LB visited Space Camp Turkey for a week-long E-Pal summer camp at the Space Camp Turkey. The students had an opportunity to meet their "Partner Schools Science Program" counterparts in Izmir, meet and make new friends, all students from many countries. The LB students also met US Astronaut Charlie Walker who visited the Space Camp as an honor guest.

Tony Blair leaves impression on Long Beach
There he is on this Wednesday morning, Tony Blair, once one of the most powerful leaders in the world, inspecting different rooms at the Eastman Boys & Girls Club at 700 East Del Amo Blvd. in Long Beach, nodding his approval at the various offerings from computers to arts and crafts to myriad musical instruments.

A New Identity for Izmir - INOVIZ
The three major universities in Izmir (Ege University, 9 Eylül University and Izmir Institute of Technology) are acknowledged as the national and international authorities in Biomedical Technologies, subjects including but not limited to Bioengineering, Bio-mechanics, and Materials Sciences.


İZKA participated in MIPIM 2010
MIPIM Fair which is one of the biggest events in the global real-estate market, was held for the 21st time in the City of Cannes, France between 16-19 March. MIPIM 2010 hosted 18,000 real estate professionals from 81 countries.


Turkish Trade Commissioners based in Americas convened in Ankara
Zafer Caglayan, Minister of State in charge of Foreign Trade, held a meeting with Turkish Commercial Counselors and Attaches, who serve their tenures in North and South America at an assembly meeting in Ankara on April 7-8, 2010 at the headquarters of Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade.


“ Homage to Homeros ” Exhibit to Introduce Artwork of Turkish and American Artists
“ Homage to Homeros,” an art exhibition featuring artwork by Turkish and American artists, will open at the Second City Council Art Gallery in Long Beach March 27. The artwork will be open for public viewing on Saturday, March 27th and Sunday, March 28th from 12:00 noon till 5:00 pm.
The evening reception will start at 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 27th and introduce the city of Izmir and Turkey, as well as sister-city program activities, to the Southern California community. “ Homage to Homeros ” reception will feature the artists and key note speakers accompanied by authentic music.
The exhibition is curated by artist Jeyan Necla BEKAR.


Long Beach City College to open downtown small-business development office
Long Beach Redevelopment Agency board members voted unanimously to enter into a $105,500 consulting contract with the college and lease 309 Pine Ave. as a satellite office for the college's regional Small Business Development Center program, which has a main office at 4900 E. Conant St.


“Izmir Retrospective” Exhibit to Share Artifacts of Turkish Culture
Long Beach, Calif., Feb. 25, 2010—“Izmir Retrospective,” an art exhibition featuring artifacts from Izmir, Turkey, will open at the Second City Council Art Gallery in Long Beach March 13.
“Izmir Retrospective” will run through May 5.
The exhibition is curated by artist Jeyan Necla BEKAR.


Izmir agriculture and agro-food sector
There are 272,000 artisans, 60,000 enterprises and 6,000 factories in Izmir. Two free trade zones and 19 organised industrial zones are located in the city, some sector-specific, but most accommodating companies from various sectors.
Izmir's traditional exports are agricultural products, foodstuff, textiles, clothing and iron and steel. Products such as cotton, figs, grapes, tobacco, olives and olive oil that form the basis of the Aegean agro-industry, have a worldwide reputation for their premium quality.

Izmir becomes the Honorary Guest of ACCENTA International Fair as Ghent discovers Turkey
Turkish Aegean province of Izmir is the honorary guest of annual ACCENTA International Trade Fair which takes place in Belgium.
Izmir is promoted in the fair which is held in Ghent city of Belgium from 12th through 20th of September.


LBUSD Wins $250k As Broad Prize Finalist
The Long Beach Unified School District was awarded $250,000 for the Broad Prize for Urban Education to fund college scholarships for Long Beach's high school students.
The award recognizes the nation's most improved school districts and marks the second consecutive year that Long Beach has come away as a finalist. Long Beach accepted nearly $1.4 million in awards from the Broad Foundation in the past six years.

American Ambassador James F. Jeffrey paid a visit to the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Aziz Kocaoğlu in his office on the occasion of the 233rd Anniversary of the Independence of USA.

Izmir was one of the cities disappointing the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, as the candidate from the main opposition People’s Republican Party, or CHP, Aziz Kocaoglu held his seat in the city in a landslide victory on Sunday. March 29, 2009.


Koreas Biggest Cigarette Company Chose to Invest in Izmir
KT&G Corp., South Koreas largest tobacco and ginseng company, has made a move into the Turkish tobacco market, and begun construction on a production plant in Tire Organized Industrial Zone. The production started in March 2008, with a production capacity of two billion cigarettes a year.


World’s Aviation Giants Gather in Izmir
“THE FIRST IZMIR GLOBAL AEROSPACE CONFERENCE” was held in the Aegean Free Zone on 13-14 November 2008 with the contribution and cooperation of ESBAS – The Aegean Free Zone Development & Operating Co.; EGEV – Aegean Foundation for Economic Development, IZKA – Izmir Development Agency, IZTO – Izmir Chamber of Commerce, EBSO – Aegean Region Chamber of Industry, EIB – Aegean Exporters Union, ABFT – American Business Forum in Turkey, and SSM – Undersecretariat for Defence Industries.


İzmir hails big year in archaeology
With thousands of artifacts retrieved from excavation sites, 2008 was a busy year for İzmir’s archaeological agenda.
According to figures released by the Culture and Tourism Directorate of İzmir, 143,617 historical artifacts were surfaced from 16 dig sites during 2008, revealing the desperate need of more museums in the city.

Five new investments in İzmir to provide jobs to 3,000 people
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, President of the Executive Board of the Aegean Free Zone Development and Operating Company (ESBAS), Kaya Tuncer, said that they have begun receiving big investments after tax incentives were resumed and promotional activities took place overseas.


Greenpeace hails İzmir for ecology commitment
Drawing attention to the dangers caused by thermal power plants that use coal, Greenpeace Mediterranean General Director Dr. Uygar Özemsi said İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s study on geothermal energy had set an example for future energy use.
