Izmir opened the restored Airgas Factory with “Harvest Season” celebrations. The historical site is now put into service as an "art and culture center" hosting a coffee shop, exhibition halls and art galleries.

Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu stated that the Airgas Factory, which was constructed by French 150 years ago, was restored by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality strictly true to its original architecture. The renovation costs totaled 6.5 million TL.

Mayor Kocaoglu believes that as a result of careful restoration work and landscaping arrangements, the historical Airgas Factory will be one of the most active culture-art centers of Izmir and continue to give service for decades to come.

The construction of Airgas Factory began in 1862 by French firm “Laidloux and Sons.” The factory quicly became the main supply source for the city's air gas illumination system.

The renovated iron foundry will be used as a coffee shop, warehouses will serve as exhibition halls and art shops.
